Bonnie McKee wrote Cheryl's 'I Don't Care'

Songwriter Bonnie McKee has revealed Cheryl's 'I Don't Care' makes her skin crawl because it's a track that she penned about her own journey and once the track was handed over it was edited to the point where it was almost unrecognisable.

She actually wrote the song and gave it the title 'Waking Up Diagonal', but Cheryl's team ended up making some big changes once they got hold of it and she isn't too happy with how it turned out.

"I wrote a song called 'I Don't Care', that's not what I called it actually. Cheryl Cole cut it and it went to number one in the UK last year. That was my 10th number one, so I'm grateful for it but I didn't want to give it up. It was a song I had written for myself. They tweaked a couple lyrics and changed the title."

"The original title was 'Waking Up Diagonal'. It's the first line of the song. I just thought it was more interesting than 'I Don't Care', which is such a boring title to me. When I hear that song it breaks my heart a little bit because it's my story."

McKee went onto add that she has no problem with Cheryl and instead she is just upset with how the song changed because it wasn't what she wanted it to be: "I mean the Cheryl song was great, they did a good job with it, but it just wasn't the way I would do it. It really makes my skin crawl. I'm just like, 'This isn't how it's supposed to be."
