Singer Cody Simpson has revealed that he was recently given advice by John Mayer, which he found really useful.

Speaking to ArtistDirect.com about 'New Problems', which has a blues influence, the Aussie sensation confessed that he loves different kinds of music and various genres have crept into his new album:

"Yes! I love the blues, too. That song is one that I sent to Mayer while I was recording it and I asked him for advice. That and 'Free'."

"I love the blues and I am trying to play it more, and I look to people like John Mayer for inspiration, who are veterans."

When asked if Mayer responded to him, Simpson added: "Yes, he came back up with a bunch of advice and stuff I could apply as a recording artist in general. That was cool, since Mayer is someone that has been able to take something similar to what I want to do and has become the best at it."
