The Janoskians tell Pressparty about new movie, 5SOS, and pranks

Aussie stars The Janoskians are gearing up to release their first ever film project 'Janoskians: Untold and Untrue' later this month and Pressparty caught up with them this week to talk about the exciting new project.

In the interview, the lads also opened up about pranking the crew on set, the 5SOS-penned track 'Cloudy' that they've got their hands on, and what their creative process is like for writing songs and coming up with ideas for music videos.

You’ll be releasing 'Janoskians: Untold and Untrue' soon and we’re so excited. What can you tell us about it that we might not already know?

We enlisted a few friends to join us in the movie including The Vamps, Jack and Jack, Nash Grier, Kendall Schmidt from Big Time Rush... but you'll have to watch it to see the rest!

Did anything weird or funny or scary happen on set? What was the best part about filming it?

Luke and Beau pranked the crew! On April Fool's Day, we were filming and wanted to prank the crew, so Luke pretended he slept with Beau's girlfriend. We were just about to film a scene and we had staged a set-up fight right in front of 20 crew members before we shouted, 'April Fool's Day'! It was really awkward for them, but it was so funny for us.

Can we talk about the song ‘Cloudy’? We read back in March that you guys initially said it was co-written by 5SOS’s Calum Hood and might be released as a stand-alone single. Earlier this summer, the 5SOS boys said they had no idea you were using the song

We're going to invite them over to our house for a party - hopefully we can talk about it then and we will get back to you after that!

Are there any other music acts you’d like to collaborate with now that you’ve started focusing more on that side of things in your collective career?

We would love to collaborate with the Fifth Harmony girls because I think 'I'm Worth It'.

You’re unveiled quite a few songs lately (with awesome videos!) and we want to know how involved you all are with the creative process. Do you write your own material? Do you write together? We can imagine you all having a lot of fun in the studio…

We all get involved. Whoever has a good idea starts off and then we work through. We've had a track that Mike Posner wrote and one of the first studio sessions we went to was with Faydee, and we had such a great time. The first few sessions were more like hangouts.

You’ll be heading back to the UK and Ireland soon for a new tour that is set to kick off in Dublin on August 29. What can fans expect from the jaunt?

Yes we are and we can't wait! We are bringing the rock opera to every city! Only London has seen it so far so we can't wait to take it everywhere! This time we have split the show into a couple of different parts - some music, some challenges, and then a DJ set in the middle.

The Janoskians have a strong social media presence – how important is it for you to be connected to your fans in that way? Have you ever been put off using social media or has it been a great experience to date?

It's really important for us to use social media to keep in touch with our fans. Of course, sometimes we over-analyse tweets, but the good outweighs the bad because we can keep in touch with them so directly and so often.

Zayn Malik quit One Direction earlier this year. Did that surprise you? Are The Janoskians here to stay?

Eventually things like this happen... but for The Janoskians? We are here to stay!

Have you experienced any downsides to fame or felt as though you were under unnecessary pressure?

Yeah, it's really hard to keep fighting away the girls all the time!

If you weren’t in The Janoskians, what else do you think you would be doing – or what else would you like to be doing?

Luke: Well, I was still in school at the time so I wasn't certain, but I knew I wanted to do something in the media or with sports. I guess media is coming into this job so I guess I'm doing a bit of what I hoped!

James: I would have probably ended up being a lawyer as it was something I was interested in at school. I think my parents would have supported this! And then once we were on 'Ellen', I had to tell my parents that I would be in The Janoskians rather than be a lawyer!

You have some incredibly dedicated fans. Have you ever had any stand-out experiences with fans that you remember? What has been your weirdest fan encounter so far? Any strange gifts?!

James was on a plane and started talking to this girl sitting next to him and then a guy behind us started getting excited and taking photos. Then the girl next to me asked for my phone number... so that was a good and weird experience all in one!
