Rachel Platten scores a UK No.1 single with 'Fight Song'

Songstress Rachel Platten has officially scored her first UK chart-topper today (August 28) with 'Fight Song'.

Having first entered the Top 100 at Number 68 last week, the track climbs 67 places to become her first UK Top 40 hit. The song has proven a big hit across the globe, so far entering the Top 10 in the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Belgium.

Speaking to the Official Charts about her No.1 victory, Platten explained: “I feel so excited and so proud that 'Fight Song' has hit No.1 on the Official Singles Chart, I can’t really believe it. It’s amazing to me that this song that I wrote when I was going through one of the hardest times in my life is also the thing that made my dreams come true. I’m just kind of overwhelmed and really grateful.”

'Fight Song' ends the week nearly 3,000 combined chart sales ahead of today’s No.2, Felix Jaehn’s 'Ain’t Nobody (Loves Me Better)' ft. Jasmine Thompson. Jess Glynne’s 'Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself' slides two places to No.3 today, followed by Calvin Harris & Disciples’ 'How Deep Is Your Love' at No.4, which takes the title of the most streamed track for a third week running, racking up 2.44m listens in the last seven days.

Elsewhere, The Weeknd’s 'Can’t Feel My Face' (No.6) also breaks the 2 million streams barrier this week, with a total of 2.18m. Rounding out today’s Top 5 is former chart-topper Charlie Puth’s 'Marvin Gaye' ft. Meghan Trainor.

Rita Ora’s 'Body On Me' (No.28) climbs 13 places to re-enter the Top 40 today, while Ella Eyre scores this week’s highest climber with new single 'Good Times' (No.37), up a massive 143 places. Hozier’s 'Take Me To Church' (No.39) and Jess Glynne’s 'Hold My Hand' (No.40) both also re-enter today’s Official Singles Chart Top 40.
