Jess Glynne tops the UK Albums Chart with 'I Cry When I Laugh'

Songstress Jess Glynne has landed straight in at No.1 on this week’s Official Albums Chart today (August 28) with 'I Cry When I Laugh'.

The singer-songwriter’s first record finishes the week with combined sales of just under 60,000, giving her the second biggest opening week of any debut album in 2015, behind James Bay’s 'Chaos And The Calm' (64,000 combined sales).

Glynne told Official Charts that she's overwhelmed by her record's commercial success: “I can’t believe it. It’s just… wow! It genuinely hasn’t sunk in yet – it really hasn’t. It’s the most insane feeling to have your whole album accepted by the British public. To see how well it’s been received is possibly one of the most overwhelming feelings I’ve ever had. I’m so proud and excited about this album – I love every song on it. The fact that people are buying it and loving it as well is like some insane dream!”

'I Cry When I Laugh' includes Glynne’s five No.1 singles 'Rather Be' (with Clean Bandit), 'My Love' (with Route 94), 'Hold My Hand', 'Not Letting Go' (with Tinie Tempah), and 'Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself' as well as Top 10 hits 'Right Here' and 'Real Love' (with Clean Bandit).

Meanwhile, last week’s No.1 'The Very Best Of Cilla Black' slips to No.2, and Bon Jovi’s 13th studio album 'Burning Bridges' is new in at No.3. The entry marks the band’s 15th UK Top 10 album (16th Top 40).

Completing this week’s Top 5 are Britain’s Got Talent duo Bars & Melody, who enter at No.4 with their debut collection '143', and Dr Dre’s 'Compton' is at 5. Disturbed land their second UK Top 10 album this week with their sixth album 'Immortalized', new at No.8, and Scottish band The Fratellis enter at No.16 with their fourth album 'Eyes Wide, Tongue Tied'.

Irish Rockers The Strypes are new at 17 with 'Little Victories', Christian folk band The Rend Collective score their second UK Top 40 album with 'As Family We Go' (No.19) and Natalie Imbruglia’s 'Male' debuts at 20. Finally, Swedish metal band Ghost land at 23 with 'Meliora', London indie band Spector enter at 27 with 'Moth Boys', and AFX’s 'Orphaned Deejay Selek 2006 – 2008' is new at No.34.
