James Arthur: 'The press made it hard for people to embrace me again'

Former 'X Factor' winner James Arthur has revealed that he wants people to embrace him as an artist again and to ignore the negativity that has been following him around.

In a new interview with Sharon Evans, Arthur talked about the way he is promoted in the media in the UK and confessed that he's disappointed that old content is regurgitated by 'lazy' journalists in an attempt to keep him in the bad guy lane:

"It’s a little bit frustrating because in this country it would be nice to turn things around a little bit. In Europe I’m gigging all the time and I’m playing to big crowds of 50 to 70,000 people and it would be nice to have that back in my own country. However, the press has made it hard for people to embrace me again with the way that they keep regurgitating all the old stories."

He added: "I think it sells papers, its lazy journalism. I’m an easy target I guess and I’m easy to knock. I don’t get too bothered about it. I’m happy still doing music as a career and I stay away from reading the papers. You see the odd thing and you get put in a bracket of X Factor winners who didn’t do so well, but I’m actually doing very well, they just don’t really broadcast it."

The singer also spoke about the music he has been working on for his upcoming new studio album and teased that it's 'back to basics':

"It’s kind of back to basics. I’m writing on my guitar again and stripping everything back. I’m talking about the journey that I’ve been on over the last three years because it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster since The X Factor. I’ve had some ups and downs and so there have been many things to talk about. It’s really just revisiting what I’ve been through and to let people know where I’m at now. Musically it’s more band orientated and guitar based. I’ve come from being in bands and I think that sound accompanies my voice well."
