Another Level star Dane Bowers could face jail time after being convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Beauty queen Sophia Cahill, of Torfaen, had alleged that the singer hit her in the face, squeezed her throat and pulled her hair.

Bowers had said he had been acting in self-defence and that any contact made during the scuffle at his parents' house was accidental.

However, district judge Andrew Sweet said at Croydon Magistrates' Court that he was "satisfied that [Bowers] assaulted her in the manner she described."

He added that the possibility of a jail term remains.

The case has been adjourned until October 15 when Bowers will learn his fate.
