Nirvana song named Most Iconic of All Time in new scientific study

Scientists at Goldsmiths university in London recently used a unique computer algorithm to determine the most iconic song of all time and have put Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' firmly at the top spot.

The track was released back in 1991, but is still as relevant today as it has now been put at No.1 thanks to these interesting new research findings. Dr Mick Grierson, who spearheaded the study, explained that they looked at key elements of hit songs to come up with their results:

"Goldsmiths used a computer algorithm to compile the new list. We looked at key criteria including tonic dissonance, numbers of chord changes and beats per minute."

Nirvana's anthem placed above John Lennon's 'Imagine', U2's 'One, Michael Jackson's hit 'Thriller', Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody', The Beatles' 'Hey Jude', and 'God Save The Queen' by the Sex Pistols.
