5SOS, 1D and Little Mix are all up for NME's Worst Band award

The shortlist for this year's NME Awards 2016 with Austin, Texas has finally been confirmed and sees some of pop's hottest acts of the moment go head to head for the Worst Band prize.

A press release explains: "5 Seconds of Summer were named Worst Band in 2015 and they are in with the chance of retaining the title, competing with One Direction, Little Mix, Sleaford Mods, U2 and Nickelback in the category for 2016."

The Best Festival category sees Glastonbury facing stiff competition from the likes of Reading & Leeds, V Festival, T In The Park, Bestival and the Isle of Wight.

Music Moment of the Year is one of the hottest battles. From the return of Adele, The Libertines secret Glastonbury set, pop-kings One Direction’s ‘split’, Kanye West’s performance at the BRITs to Dave Grohl’s heroics as he battled through a Foo Fighters’ gig despite breaking his leg mid-show.

Mike Williams, editor-in-chief of the NME, says: “The NME audience has voted in its thousands, and once again have pulled together an exciting, diverse and in some places pretty surprising shortlist for the 2016 Awards. Will The Libertines crown their beautiful comeback with a couple of wins? Will Kanye be the hero and villain of the year? Can anyone stop the Adele juggernaut from pulverising everything in its path? All will be revealed on February 17 at the NME Awards 2016 with Austin, Texas once the people have had their final say. I’m really excited and can’t wait for the big night”

Voting for the winners is now open at www.nme.com/awardsvote and you can check out the full list of shortlisted nominees below:
