Janet Devlin tells Pressparty her favourite things about Christmas

Christmas Day has come around far too quickly yet again and in anticipation of December 25, we caught up with flame-haired songstress Janet Devlin to find out what she loves about the special festive holiday.

She recently released a brand new Christmas EP called 'December Daze', which came out on November 27, and we asked her what it is about this time of year she loves so much.

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?

My favourite thing about Christmas has got to be going home to Ireland. I don't get much time off during the year so I don't go home very often. So going back to see my family and friends has got to be my favourite part. We're very traditional with our celebrations around this time of year so I do indulge and I do get to switch my work off for a little bit. (Although I still take my recording equipment with me just incase I get inspired).

What are you hoping to find underneath your tree?

I think it's an age thing but I'm not really wishing for anything this year! I'm very blessed in the sense that I have everything I could possibly ask for already so anything is just a major bonus! Also I have a November birthday and this year I turned 21 so I'm still pretty spoilt from that! The one thing I wanted was for my little niece to be at home for Christmas this year and that's happening s I'm a pretty happy girl to be honest!

What is your worst Christmas memory and best Christmas memory?

Worst Christmas memory has to be Christmas Day when I was 4. My grandfather had passed away, so we had to bury him on Christmas morning. Although that was a very unfortunate thing to happen we still have him in our hearts every christmas day which is really lovely as we still do a toast to him over dinner. My best Christmas memory was when I was 9 years old. It was a very normal christmas for me really, the celebration went as planned and Santa had brought me everything I'd asked for! But my favourite part was tacking up my horse and going for a hack around the country side. There was an amazing moment of clarity and I reached a lovely viewing spot at the top of a mountain where I could see the snow falling around the Sperrin Mountains and everything was just magical.

What’s your favourite festive song?

It's got to be "Fairytale of New York"! To me this is the ultimate Christmas track! Every year me and my brother avoid playing the song. However if it comes on the radio or television, we have to ring each other because for us that's when it's officially Christmas! Also when I was around 7 I learnt how to play it on tin whistle so it was my party piece for numerous Christmases.
