Lady Gaga, Sam Smith and The Weeknd earn Oscar nominations

The nominees for this year's Oscars have finally been announced and there are some huge contenders in the running for the award in the coveted Original Song category. 

Music icon Lady Gaga has been recognised for her song 'Til It Happens To You,' British singer-songwriter Sam Smith is also nominated for his Bond theme 'Writing's On The Wall,' and The Weeknd will compete for the title thanks to his 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' offering 'Earned It'.

The other two nominees for the prize include 'Simple Song #3' from 'Youth' and 'Manta Ray' from 'Racing Extinction'.

The moving Amy Winehouse documentary has been nominated for the Documentary Feature prize alongside 'Cartel Land,' 'The Looks Of Silence,' 'What Happened, Miss Simone?,' and 'Winter On Fire'. The 88th Academy Awards, which is set to be hosted by comedian and actor Chris Rock, will be held at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre on February 28..
