Sam Smith and Lady Gaga react to today's Oscars nominations

Earlier today, The Academy announced this year's Oscars nominees and both Lady Gaga and Sam Smith have been recognised in the Original Song category.

Gaga is up for the award thanks to her song 'Til It Happens To You,' which was written for the soundtrack to the campus rape documentary 'The Hunting Ground,' and Sam Smith's Bond theme 'Writing's On The Wall' earned him the nomination.

British sensation Smith took to his Instagram account and shared a photograph of himself (pictured below), which he accompanied with the following caption: "This is my Oscar Nomination face. Unreal. Freaking out. Thank you Academy - Thank You Thank You Thank You."

Gaga also posted a message of surprise and of thanks, which she shared in the form of a note created on a typewriter. It reads: "This nomination lends a voice to victims and survivors all over the world. Thank you to The Academy for recognising the movement of people who have come together for this film and song in the name of sexual assault. Myself and Diane (Warren, songwriter) are simply honoured to represent the voices of so many survivors."
