Kendrick Lamar to be given key to hometown Compton

Kendrick Lamar is set to receive the key to Compton, California.

The rapper will be given the honour by his hometown mayor Aja Brown next month.

A special event will be held on February 13 to pay tribute to Lamar's success and and community work.

Brown told Entertainment Weekly: "Kendrick Lamar is a phenomenal artist whose work has served as a catalyst to raise a new level of consciousness for this generation.

"His message challenges the status quo and motivates listeners to rethink our society’s institutions. I believe Kendrick Lamar is not only an artist, but an influencer of an entire generation.

"He represents Compton with great pride and I am honoured to present him with the Key to the City, which symbolises our deep appreciation for his philanthropic work and commitment to our community."

Lamar also received the Generational Icon award by the California Senate in May.

As previously reported, the musician debuted a new song called 'Untitled 2' on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on January 7.

The rapper released his latest album 'To Pimp A Butterfly' last year, and it was widely praised for its far-reaching sound.
