Shawn Mendes is 'so thankful' for debut UK No.1 single

Canadian sensation Shawn Mendes has claimed the No.1 position on the UK Top 40 this evening (January 22) with his single 'Stitches' and he revealed that it's an incredible achievement.

He knocked Justin Bieber off the top spot, who has been dominating the singles chart over the last 12 weeks with 'Love Yourself', 'Sorry' and 'What Do You Mean?'. In a statement, the heartthrob admitted that he can't believe the success this track is producing across the globe and he's honoured to have a UK No.1 single:

"It is so unreal that Stitches is now #1 in the UK. It's my first #1 on the official charts, and I can't even describe the feeling! I'm so thankful for everything that's been happening over there, and couldn't ask for more amazing UK fans and supporters. You guys rock!"

A press release explains: "Stitches shows no sign of slowing down. Rising up the airplay charts daily, Stitches is currently the 4th most played track on UK radio, with over 4000 plays, and has been on the Radio 1 playlist for an impressive 9 weeks. With over 270 million streams on Spotify globally, Stitches is also close to topping the Global Spotify Chart. The video (view here) has been viewed almost 200 million times. Shawn will return to the UK in February for a run of very exciting promotion which will be announced in the coming days."
