Maroon 5 and Adele lyric in campus sexual harassment campaign

The University of Oklahoma's Gender and Equality Center's members have unveiled campaign posters on campus featuring popular song lyrics to promote Stalking Awareness Month.

On one, the lyrics to Maroon 5's 'Animal' can be seen ("Baby, I'm preying on you tonight/Hunt you down eat you alive) and another features a snippet from Adele's 'Hello' ("I must have called a thousand times"). Both posters feature the line "even great songs can normalise sexual harassment".

Kathy Moxley, Director of the University of Oklahoma's Gender and Equality Center, told FOX411.com that it was important to raise awareness of the fact that popular culture can perpetuate these normalised ideas of obsessive or violent behaviour and stressed that the campaign isn't attacking the artists or the songs:

"The music examples were used to demonstrate how aspects of popular media could be interpreted to normalise unhealthy relationship behaviours."

Dan Gainor, Vice President of Business and Culture at Media Research Center, has since blasted the campaign, explaining that the posters undermine the "true horrifying nature of stalking and sexual harassment."
