Tom Jones receives music industry honour

Sir Tom Jones was honoured last night (November 1) for his outstanding contribution to the British pop charts with a prestigious Music Industry Trust award.

The Welsh singer was presented the trophy by director Tim Burton, who worked with Jones on the 1996 film 'Mars Attacks!'

70-year-old Jones performed at the ceremony with ‘Reload’ collaborators Cerys Matthews and Kelly Jones in front of an audience full of industry greats including Michael Ball and Sir George Martin.

Chairman of the award committee, David Munns, said: "Tom Jones is one of those rare beings, a timeless entertainer, a great guy, who clearly loves what he does, and whose talent appeals to successive generations."

Previous winners of the award include Sir Elton John, Kylie Minogue and Peter Gabriel.
