Dance parties held across the US in honour of Prince

A number of tribute dance parties have been held in the US following the death of Prince.

The music world was sent into shock after news broke that the 57-year-old had passed away in his Paisley Park complex in Minneapolis.

He was found unresponsive in an elevator and paramedics were unable to revive him.

A number of street parties took place following Prince's death, with over 5,000 people turning out in Brooklyn to take part in an event hosted by director Spike Lee.

Prince's music was played out fron Lee's flat, with the movie man and friend of the icon telling CNN:

"We're all stunned by sudden death, but he's still here in the spiritual form, and we love him. We're just dancing and singing and shouting!"

Minneapolis nightclub First Avenue hosted an all-night dance party, while people also gathered at the Apollo theatre in New York.
