FKA Twigs on music industry: 'Most artists are just vessels'

Songstress FKA Twigs has revealed that it's disappointing to acknowledge that a lot of artists making music today are just "vehicles" and aren't creating anything original or genuine.

During an interview with Allure magazine, she explained that a lot of artists aren't authentic and are just used by the industry as vessels to make money:

“Imagine if you were an artist that wasn’t being herself. Imagine you’re an artist that didn’t know how to do your own makeup, didn’t know how to do your own hair, didn’t know how to put an outfit together, didn’t write your own music, didn’t direct your own videos, didn’t produce your own music. They’re not artists. They’re vehicles, vessels. The majority of them are like that. Imagine how hard that must be.”

FKA Twigs went onto reveal one of the biggest lessons she has learned in the music industry, adding that she now knows that she doesn't have to ask permission before expressing herself:

“I think one of the most painful things I went through making my record is realising that you don’t have to ask permission. You don’t have to ask permission to do a video saying something that you want to say. All you can do is follow your instincts.”
