Glastonbury will pay tribute to Prince and David Bowie

This year's Glastonbury Festival will see special tributes to the late David Bowie and 'Purple Rain' sensation Prince.

The festival's organiser, Emily Eavis, explained to the BBC that the celebrations of both icons' lives will be very special:

“We're doing Philip Glass's Heroes Symphony on the Park Stage on Saturday night, which is going to be a really intimate tribute to Bowie. It's being conducted by Charles Hazlewood with members of the Paraorchestra. And we're going to do an incredible light show which will go on for the whole show and beyond, into the night.”

Eavis also added that Prince almost performed at the festival three times, but unfortunately it never happened: “It's really disappointing that he hasn't played here but it's also, obviously, a huge loss to music because he was an incredible force. Just phenomenal. There was no-one else like him on the planet.”

Glastonbury 2016 performers so far include Adele, PJ Harvey, 'Paradise' hitmakers Coldplay, British rock trio Muse, and Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra. Glastonbury 2016 will run from Wednesday, June 22 until Sunday, June 26 and tickets have already sold out.
