Shakira raises $660,000 for children's education charity

Internationally renowned pop star Shakira has raised an incredible $660,000 to help build schools in Haiti and Columbia.

The ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer agreed to appear in a Spanish advertisement for a cava drink in return for the company, Freixenet, making the large donation to her chosen charity Pies Descalzos.

This news comes after Shakira recently announced the formation of a $25m fund with the President of Columbia to help children in her native country, and she said of the importance of education:

“Education is a birthright and a quality education is the only tool that a child has to turn dreams into reality”.
