Michael Eavis confirms Prince was in talks to perform at Glastonbury

Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis says he had a meeting scheduled with Prince's agent about the musician playing at the festival this year.

The iconic star passed away in April aged 57, with his cause of death yet to be revealed.

The US musician had never performed at the Glastonbury Festival, but Eavis told The Sun that he had been due to meet Prince's team before he died.

He said: "I was going to meet his agent, it was all planned but it didn’t happen.

"His death was so sad. That’s a real star that we never had."

Prince was close to playing the festival in 2014, but Eavis previously said that intense social media rumours about his participation put the musician off.

This year's Glastonbury Festival will take place between June 22-26.
