Former The Voice Mexico star shot dead in Chicago

A former contestant of The Voice Mexico has been shot and killed in Chicago.

Alejandro Fuentes, who featured on the show in 2011, died in hospital on Saturday (June 18) after being ambushed in his car on Thursday (June 16).

The killing comes just ten days after former The Voice US star Christina Grimmie was murdered by a gunman in Orlando.

The 22-year-old was shot and killed while signing autographs for fans outside a venue.

In Fuentes' case, the 45-year-old had been out celebrating his birthday.

He was in his car outside Tras Bambalinas - a performing arts school he set up for kids - before a gunman told him to get out of the vehicle.

The singer refused and was then shot three times in the head.
