A man has died after suffering extensive burns at Glastonbury Festival

A man in his 20s has died after catching fire at the Glastonbury Festival.

The man was airlifted from the Worthy Farm site on Monday (June 20) to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, which has a specialist burns unit.

However, a spokesperson for Somerset Police confirmed today (June 21) that the man has died.

They said: "We were called by the fire service after reports of a man on fire at the Glastonbury Festival site at about 5.20pm last night.

"The man suffered serious burns and was taken by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. He was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where he sadly later died.

"The man’s family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.

"Our enquiries are continuing but we are treating the death as unexplained and do not believe it to be suspicious."

The festival only opens to the public on Wednesday (June 22), with final preparations currently underway.

As a result of poor weather, it has been requested that all camper van owners allow the grounds at Worthy Farm a further 36 hours to recover before driving onto it.

Headlining this year's Glastonbury Festival meanwhile are Adele, Coldplay and Muse.
