Led Zeppelin cleared of plagiarism charges

Legendary rock band Led Zeppelin have been cleared of plagiarism charges

The group came under fire for stealing a riff from Spirit's 1967 song 'Taurus' and it went to trial, but Led Zeppelin walked away unscathed after it was ruled that it "was not intrinsically similar" to 'Stairway To Heaven'.

Back in April, Los Angeles district judge Gary Klausner ruled there was enough similarity between the two songs to move the matter to a copyright trial on May 10. He said:

"While it is true that a descending chromatic four-chord progression is a common convention that abounds in the music industry, the similarities here transcend this core structure. What remains is a subjective assessment of the 'concept and feel' of two works...a task no more suitable for a judge than for a jury."
