Interview with Digital Farm Animals: 'I feel like I just got to the starting line'

London’s hottest new producer and songwriter Digital Farm Animals recently unveiled a fantastic new summer track called 'Millionaire', which also features Nelly and Cash Cash, and we caught up with him to find out more

Let’s talk about 'Millionaire' ft. Nelly and Cash Cash. It's such a great track. How did this collaboration come about?

Cash Cash and I had worked on the record and they'd just remixed a record for Nelly. One thing led to another and Nelly got his hands on it and we ended up cutting the record pretty soon after!

Were you involved in any of the creative direction where the video’s concerned?

Although I'd like to think I'm relatively easy creatively, I really wanted to get stuck in on this video as my dream was to shoot a hip-hop video circa 2002. It was a lot of fun to say the least. Every gig I do from now on will (try desperately to) be a version of the video. Free drinks, loads of people better looking than me and Nelly.

You’ve also collaborated with/remixed the likes of Will.i.Am, Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse and Icona Pop! Can you talk a little about those projects and how you came to be involved/what your input was?

I try and throw my name in the hat for remixes on projects I haven't been involved in from the start of the writing process. Remixes are a great outlet for that. Fortunately with a few of the remixes I've done its led to being involved in a far bigger way with those particular projects. Will.i.Am being the best example of that.

How did you first get into music and how did you start out? Your career so far has been incredible - those credentials!

Haha, thanks! Honestly I feel like I've just got to the starting line. Like most people who do this, music was just a hobby I worked incredibly hard at and with a ridiculous amount of luck it's turned into a full time hobby. I started on a programme called fruity loops and still use it to this day. It's seen as a less professional platform but it's served me well and I still use it to this day! I'm just working hard and taking each opportunity as it comes. Hopefully people like what I put out and I can continue because I really don't feel like I've ever worked!

Who’s on your list of people you’d love to work with?

The obvious would be Calvin Harris, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay and more behind the scenes guys like Max Martin and Stargate... There's also Drake who is a God. Other than that I'd say Radiohead but they'd probably rather kill me than work with me.
