Music stars' best words of advice about dealing with bullying

July 5 is #StandUpToBullyingDay and to show our support for such an important campaign, we have rounded up some words of advice on dealing with bullying from music's hottest stars from Nathan Sykes to The Vamps.

'Over and Over Again' heartthrob Nathan Sykes told Anti-bullying Pro that when faced with negativity or hate online or in real life, it's always best to tell someone else what's going on:

"Never bottle it up and keep quiet. Speak to people who can help you as there are always people there to help."

British pop-rock band The Vamps told Pressparty that they sometimes receive abusive messages via social media and the best thing to do is to rise above it and try to ignore it:

"You have to do that on Twitter or you just get caught up on negatives. People who are nasty on Twitter don’t have anything better to do in real life, that’s the way they express themselves. In real life they’re probably insecure so you’ve got to bear that in mind. It’s important to just ignore it."

'Black Magic' beauties Little Mix had a similar message and told Capital FM that cyberbullying is pathetic and it's best to try and surround yourself with uplifting, positive and genuine people who have your best interests at heart:

"Well, I think it's a tough one because obviously they're behind a screen and they're very confident in commenting on people... but I think you should just not let it get to you. Surround yourself with positive people and ignore anything that's online because it's all a load of crap."

Jedward, meanwhile, opened up about their own experiences of being bullied and told fans to believe that "it gets better" because over time, it really does:

"The thing is that we're talking about bullying in school, but it happens in the media and all over the world... Australia, Canada... we've been to them all and you see the same things. The same letters from girls crying, saying 'I was never wanted'... [...] There's so much criticism, no matter where you go [...] you've got to find yourself as a person in life and not let others... it's all about just keeping going."
