Jared Leto on The Joker role: 'I was walking on hallowed ground'

Musician and actor Jared Leto has revealed that playing The Joker in the upcoming 'Suicide Squad' film was an honour.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly about taking on the role, he explained that he knew it held a lot of weight so he put everything he had into it

"You’re kind of walking upon hallowed ground, and it deserves the very best that you can do. It takes over your life and that’s what I needed to do for myself.”

Leto went onto add that the most liberating thing about stepping into the character was having "no rules" at all: "You don’t know what the Joker is going to do next; you never do. It was intoxicating to have no rules."

As previously reported, director David Ayer told Total Film that Leto was so mesmerising while shooting his scenes that the crew would lose track of what they were supposed to be doing on set:

"What Jared has done is absolutely incredible. When he steps onto the set the world stops. Everything stops. What he’s done is so powerful, so menacing, so palpable, you can feel him. The crew stops working and just watches him. I have to get everybody going again because he’s so fascinating."
