Viola Beach hit No.1 on UK albums chart with posthumous debut record

Viola Beach's posthumous debut record has reached No.1 on the midweek UK albums chart.

The quartet, who all passed away in February after a road accident in Stockholm, are 6,000 units ahead of the competition today (August 1).

Their self-titled debut album was released on Friday (July 29) to honour vocalist Kris Leonard, guitarist River Reeves, bassist Tomas Lowe and drummer Jack Dakin, as well as their manager Craig Tarry, who also died.

At No.2 on the midweek update is ELO's 'All Over The World', which drops one place.

Christine and The Queens' 'Chaleur Humaine' is a non-mover at No.3, with DJ Khaled new in at No.4 with 'Major Key'.

Rounding off the top five is 'Views' by Drake, which falls two places.

Billy Talent's new effort 'Afraid of Heights' debuts at No.8, with NAO in at No.9 with 'For All We Know'.

CHVRCHES' 'Every Open Eye' is up 80 places to No.35 after a re-issue was released.
