Mercury Prize shortlist includes David Bowie, The 1975 and Skepta

The 12 shortlisted albums for this year's Mercury Prize have finally been unveiled. 

The 2016 finalists include Skepta with his record 'Konnichiwa', The 1975 with 'I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it', the late David Bowie with 'Blackstar', and Radiohead with 'A Moon Shaped Pool'. The full line-up can be seen below.

Something new for this year will be the online vote, which will allow the public to select one of the shortlisted albums to make it to the final six. The ceremony, at which the winner will be crowned, will take place on Thursday, September 15 at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith. 

The 12 shortlisted 2016 Mercury Prize ‘Albums of the Year’ are:

  • Hopelessness by Anohni
  • The Bride by Bat for Lashes
  • Blackstar by David Bowie
  • Making Time by Jamie Woon
  • Made In The Manor by Kano
  • The Dreaming Room by Laura Mvula
  • Love & Hate by Michael Kiwanuka
  • A Moon Shaped Pool by Radiohead
  • Adore Life by Savages
  • Konnichiwa by Skepta
  • I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it by The 1975
  • Channel The Spirits by The Comet Is Coming
