Skepta: 'Nominations of this calibre are very important'

Skepta was recently nominated for the Mercury Prize with his album 'Konnichiwa' and he has revealed that while he doesn't really like the music industry, nominations of this calibre are very important.

Chatting to the NME at the Mercury Prize launch this week, he explained:

"It's important for [the] people who aren't on the stage to have some sort of celebration. I'm always on the stage and people are always telling me I'm the genius or the creative but there's so many people with me that [helped with the album]."

"'Konnichiwa' was made because I don't like the industry. I really had to remove myself from it to understand myself. I was chasing it for a long time and travelling around the world and realised that wasn't who I was and it's brought me to a point where I was like 'I don't care about TV or radio. This is not about awards' but saying that to my team, it's like 'What are we working for then? What do we get to do?"
