Zara Larsson: "Learning to say no is the most important thing you can do"

Songstress Zara Larsson has opened up about learning how to say no and retaining control of her career in a new interview with Britain's NME magazine.

The "Lush Life" star admitted that she was very young when she got started in the industry, but that didn't stop her from being headstrong and feeling like she had to fight for the upper hand:

"I was 15 when I started, and they're all basically men and middle-aged and know what they're doing, so when I was 15 and I was saying 'No,' that was scary. But I've had time to develop my self-esteem and the ability to say no, because that's the most important thing that you can do."

Zara Larsson also spoke about the types of things she likes to write about in her songs, adding that she wants to create music that has a universal appeal emotionally: "Mostly I just write about feelings that people can relate to. Because, yeah, I don’t know who I am, and this is not my sound for ever… I'm a human, so hopefully I will always develop."
