John Legend on confronting emotion: "Everyone is scared of love"

Singer-songwriter John Legend has revealed that this ideal that suggests men shouldn't show emotion is ridiculous because it can get in the way of seeing what's truly important in life.

Chatting to BBC Newsbeat, the "All Of Me" star explained that love is one of the great things that people are so quick to back away from out of fear of getting hurt:

"Everyone is scared of love because you might get hurt. Men have the added challenge of feeling like they're not supposed to show emotion so we guard ourselves more than women. Although when you find the right person at the right time you realise they should be a high priority."

John Legend also admitted that he recently penned a track that came from a place of pure, unfiltered emotion and he refuses to avoid confronting those feelings:

"I wrote a song just for her on this new album. I still get pretty emotional when I hear the song. I'm still going to make whatever music inspires me but I won't be scared to incorporate the fact that I'm a father into what I'm thinking about."
