Hilary Duff and her boyfriend Jason Walsh have publicly apologised for Halloween costumes they wore to a party this weekend.

The singer and actress dressed up as a pilgrim, but she wore hotpants and fishnet tights.

Walsh meanwhile went out as a Native American.

Duff said on Twitter on Sunday (October 30): "I am SO sorry to people I offended with my costume.

"It was not properly thought through and I am truly, from the bottom of my heart. Sorry."

Her boyfriend wrote on Instagram: "I meant no disrespect. I only have admiration for the indigenous people of America.

"In hindsight I would not have made that decision. I apologise to anyone I may have offended."
