Lady Gaga has reached out to Selena Gomez after she revealed her "big heart" at the American Music Awards on Sunday (November 20) with a surprise speech.

The singer returned to the spotlight at the event following a stint in rehab for depression to pick up the pop/rock female artist prize before embarking on a moving acceptance speech.

In it she said she had to take a break from her music and acting career because she was "absolutely broken inside" and needed help.

Gaga was visibly moved by the speech as she watched on from the crowd and she took to Instagram to post a picture of the duo backstage. She said:

"So dope I got to hang with with the biggest rockstar of the night. (Ya,know besides Sting and Green Day) ...the girl with the biggest prize of all a BIG Heart that she shares with the world."
