Leonard Cohen's sales and streams see 407% increase following his death

Earlier this month it was announced that the legendary Leonard Cohen had passed away at the age of 82 and following the sad news, his music has seen an incredible boost in popularity.

Neilsen SoundScan collected statistics from the week of his death and sales of his albums shot up by 283% while sales of his latest offering You Want It Darker climbed by 197%. Billboard also confirmed that "in total, his album and song sales, along with on-demand streams, rose 407 percent to 18.45 million for the week (up from 3.64 million)."

Sting recently opened up about how 2016 has claimed so many musical greats, from David Bowie to Prince and to Cohen, and explained that sometimes it's easy to forget these people aren't immortal: "All of us suffer from the delusion that cultural icons like Prince and David Bowie are somehow immortal. There's a god-like quality about them. They were extraordinary artists and a huge loss to the world of music."
