Garbage's Shirley Manson thinks women's rights have suffered post-9/11

Garbage singer Shirley Manson thinks women's rights have been adversely affected by the world going more conservative following the 9/11 terror attacks.

The vocalist told Australia's 7:30 that she feels rights for females have "eroded" over time and that women have to be "vigilant". She said:

“With September 11, I think the world got really conservative, and whenever the world gets conservative, women get affected.”

"I think that’s a result, in some ways, of a generation that followed the ’90s, and women took for granted their rights, not really understanding that human rights get eroded constantly and you always have to be really vigilant to make sure that these rights that women have fought so hard for remain in place.”
