Bob Dylan to write speech for Nobel Prize ceremony

Bob Dylan will write a speech for this year's Nobel Prize ceremony - but he won't be there in person to read it out.

The singer-songwriter will be given the Nobel Prize for literature at the event in Stockholm on December 10 and organisers say a speech of thanks penned by the musician will be read out at the ceremony's traditional banquet.

Patti Smith will, however, be on hand to perform Dylan's 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall' at the event at Stockholm's City Hall. The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra will also provide musical interludes.

Dylan infamously failed to respond for weeks after it was revealed he would be collecting this year's Nobel Prize for literature. The award has previously been won by the likes of Samuel Beckett, John Steinbeck and George Bernard Shaw.
