Brian McFadden: 'The Westlife guys knew how to give you a lift'

Singer Brian McFadden has revealed that Westlife's collective career was quite turbulent and once he quit the group the other members were "scared" by what the future might hold for them.

He told The Irish Sun newspaper: "If we had been given a break, it might have been different but when I look back now everything happens for a reason. None of the other guys were enjoying it at that stage (in 2004), they hated it. But when I left, they all got scared with this feeling, how long is this going to last?"

"They ended up appreciating what they had again. They started to love it again. They got eight years of something they were taking for granted. They enjoyed those eight years more than the first eight years."

He went onto add that once his decision to leave the group was publicly announced, he had to take some time out to figure out his next move: "When the press conference ended there was just nothing. The Westlife circus left. I went up to the racecourse to think about what I would do."

McFadden confessed that while he enjoyed his solo career, it was challenging because in Westlife he had the support of his band members: "I had a band for my solo tour but you feel a bit separated. In Westlife we could spot if someone was flagging, or upset or tired. The other guys knew how to give you a lift."
