Aretha Franklin is "retiring this year": 'I feel very, very enriched and satisfied'

Music icon Aretha Franklin has confirmed plans to retire later this year.

During an interview with Detroit TV station WDIV Local 4, she explained that she feels her career is winding down naturally and she is incredibly fulfilled by everything she has accomplished: "I must tell you, I am retiring this year. I feel very, very enriched and satisfied with respect to where my career came from and where it is now."

Franklin went onto add that she won't disappear completely and plans to maybe schedule in a couple of commitments throughout each year: "I'll be pretty much satisfied, but I'm not going to go anywhere and just sit down and do nothing. That wouldn't be good either ... [I'll be open] to some select things, mainly one a month, for six months out of the year."
