Una Healy says Saturdays bandmates are supportive of solo career

Hitmaker Una Healy, formerly of The Saturdays fame, has opened up about her new solo album 'The Waiting Game'.

She appeared on BBC One's Saturday Kitchen this morning (February 11) and explained that the singer-songwriter route might seem surprising to some, but it's where she came from musically:

"It's a singer-songwriter album because it's all original music - before I was in the group, I was going down the singer-songwriter path as I started writing music when I was 12, you'd see me with my guitar [...] It's like I went back to my roots again with this album."

When asked about her journey into the music world, the songstress explained that she fell in love with writing songs at just 12-years-old: "When I was a child I was a swimmer - I was always in the pool - and music was just something that was always on the radio. It wasn't until I was 12 that I started playing the guitar. One of the first songs I learned on the guitar was one of my own songs. I loved writing lyrics and putting melodies to them."

She went onto add that her Saturdays bandmates are all really supportive of her new solo career: "They know exactly that this is the kind of music I always wanted to do. I always knew I'd go back to doing this kind of music."
