Demi Lovato: 'Mental health is just as important as physical health'

Songstress Demi Lovato has opened up about the new documentary called 'Beyond Silence', which follows three individuals with mental health problems and explores their varying experiences.

The 'Give Your Heart A Break' sensation executive-produced the project and spoke to Variety about the project. She explained that it's important to remind people that mental health is as valid and important as its physical equivalent:

"You can hear in the documentary how different they are, but also how alike they are. It’s important that we get that message out there because mental health is so important — it’s just important as physical health.”

She added: “I hope that this film will show people that there is nothing wrong with having a mental health condition. If you do have one, you are able to live well and thrive with a mental health condition, if you are able to speak up and be vocal about the things you are going through.”

The 'Skyscraper' star also confessed that being able to tell her own story about her mental health struggles has shown her that it's so important to have these kinds of conversations: “There’s something about when you speak out and are vocal about your story, it’s very inviting to others who are dealing with the same thing. And if you can make that impact on somebody’s life, it does something for you spiritually that makes you want to tell the story again and again and again,”
