Gavin Rossdale: 'It's hard to separate from the most monumental thing in your life as an artist'

Musician and The Voice coach Gavin Rossdale has revealed that his divorce from Gwen Stefani definitely influences his songwriting although he tries not to write directly about it.

The star explained to Entertainment Tonight that he has purposely tried to distance himself from the topic to avoid writing anything too obvious, but it's tough to separate the artistic self from the actual self in that way:

"It obviously informs the record. It's hard to separate yourself from the most monumental thing that happens in your life if you're an artist. There were certain songs that weren't right. They were written for me to write, in the purest sense. Just to write to kind of escape my life a little bit or to understand it."

Rossdale also recently told the Radio Times that as a musician he wants to create pieces of work that have genuine value to society:

"Because I'm the father of so many children, I want to leave the world in a better place in my tiny minuscule way. I'm a piece of dust on the earth, but as an artist it's imperative that we do something of value and not only just moan about ourselves."
