George Michael "deserved" imprisonment

George Michael has admitted that he felt as though he "deserved" to be sent to prison after crashing his car whilst high on cannabis last year.

During an interview with Chris Evans on BBC's Radio 2, the 'Faith' star revealed that the punishment wasn't too hard to take because he knew he had to pay the price for his behaviour:

"This was a hugely shameful thing to have done repeatedly. So karmically I felt like I had a bill to pay. I went to prison, I paid my bill."

He added:

"Remarkably enough, I know people must think it was a really horrific experience - it's so much easier to take any form of punishment if you believe you actually deserve it, and I did."

On top of acknowledging that what he did was indeed wrong, the international icon also indulged which celebrities, including Sir Elton John, wrote to him during his incarceration:

"He wrote to me in the nick which was nice, and so did Boy George write me a lovely letter."

"And I got a letter from Paul McCartney which was lovely."

The interview is due to be broadcast on March 7 and 8, and will be played in two parts on the popular show. Watch George Michael perform 'Careless Whisper' live in Australia here:
