Paul McCartney has completed an album comprised of pre-Beatles pop standards, but is afraid that releasing it will draw comparisons with Rod Stewart.

The singer has recorded nearly a dozen pop standards including a few tracks with jazz songstress and wife of Elvis Costello, Diana Krall and her band.

Perez Hilton reports Macca explaining the album as “my dad’s style of music."

He said: "I’ve wanted to do that kind of thing forever, since the Beatle days. But then Rod [Stewart] went mad on it. I thought, 'I have to wait so it doesn’t look like I’m trying to do a Rod.’

"They’re just songs I admire, I’m trying to steer away from the obvious ones. It’s get-home-from-work music. You put it on and get a glass of wine," he added.
