Former Beach Boy Brian Wilson has opened up about his previous drug abuse saying that it “fucked his brain” and had him hearing voices “saying derogatory things”.

In a candid interview with The Guardian Weekend magazine, the songwriter spoke of his childhood, incredible success and debilitating mental illness.

Speaking on the period of his life in the late 60s where he was using LSD heavily, he said “At first, my creativity increased more than I could believe,” but added, “On the downside, it f*cked my brain.”

The star also explained that he began to hear voices, which told him he would die soon, and which continue to this day, increasing when he’s onstage. 15 years after the voices started, Wilson was diagnosed with bipolar schizoaffective disorder.
