Annie Lennox received her OBE today at Buckingham Palace

Eurythmics frontwoman and activist Annie Lennox was awarded by the Queen this afternoon (June 28) with an OBE.

The 56-year-old superstar was honoured for her endless charity work and arrived at Buckingham Palace earlier today in a purple taffeta dress and matching hat to receive the accolade, and explained to the press:

"You don't think about rewards, you think about what you're doing for its own value. If people then give you recognition for it, that's wonderful."

She also opened up to the Daily Mail about her fight for human rights in the developing world and added:

"I've been so affected by the issue. Those in the developing world have so few rights - we take a lot for granted in the developed world."
