Sir Paul McCartney praises 'best live act' win

Sir Paul McCartney was hailed this afternoon as the Best Live Act at a prestigious awards ceremony in London. 

He was given the title at the Nordoff Robbins Silver Clef Awards and his win was all down to members of the public, who were given the opportunity to vote for their favourite live performer earlier this year.

Although he was unable to attend the event, which took place at the Park Lane Hilton Hotel, he said of the honour:

"This is phenomenal news. To be voted the Best Live Act by the public when the competition was so amazingly strong is very special indeed."

In addition to Sir Paul's win, Liza Minelli was given the Icon Award, Annie Lennox took the coveted Silver Clef prize for her extensive charity work and Tinie Tempah received the Newcomer Award. Watch Sir Paul perform 'Let It Be' here:
