Jennifer Hudson considered for Aretha biopic

Queen of soul Aretha Franklin has revealed the names of singers and actresses who are being considered to play her in an upcoming biopic. Among the names are actress Halle Berry and 'American Idol' stars Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson.

The script for the proposed film will be coming from Aretha’s 1999 autobiography ‘Aretha: From These Roots’.

Speaking to Macleans Magazine on the casting of the film, Franklin said: “Halle Berry is back in the game.

“I just saw her at the curtain of Oprah’s farewell event and she let me know that she still wants to play the role.”

She added: “She didn’t know that she wasn’t expected to sing. I told her, ‘No, we never expected you to sing, we already knew you weren’t a singer!’

“However, I do think she could pull it off.”

Aretha revealed that choosing the final winner of the role will be down to her, and she has a few other names in the running.

“Ms [Jennifer] Hudson and Fantasia are two of the people being considered,” she said.
