Newcastle's Ignition festival cancelled at the last minute

Ignition festival, which was due to take place this coming weekend in Newcastle, has been cancelled at the eleventh hour after serious health and safety concerns were raised.

The event was meant to be held at the Newcastle Racecourse between August 6-7 and had already confirmed huge names to headline including Calvin Harris, Feeder and Echo & The Bunnymen. Unfortunately, it will no longer go ahead and a statement on the festival's official website reads:

"With deepest regret we are now in a position to confirm that Ignition Festival 2011 will not be going ahead. Despite every effort to keep this going after this was cancelled yesterday by Newcastle Racecourse."

"We have been in discussions with Stephen Savage from Newcastle City Council with regards to re locating the event. Unfortunately this was not possible due to time constraints."

These last minute change of plans confused even the performers as Calvin Harris wrote on Twitter yesterday that he was unsure of what was going on, "not sure what's going on with Ignition festival this weekend Newcastle, when i find out i'll let you know..."

The event aims to refund all tickets and you can watch Harris' latest video for 'Feel So Close' below:
