Sir Mick Jagger: 'riots are synonymous with English urban life'

Sir Mick Jagger has admitted that although the London riots were terrible, he definitely wasn't shocked by them as that kind of behaviour is a "regular feature of English urban life".

Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, the Rolling Stones frontman explained that "riots like that have been a feature of Britain for 200 years" and the country is blind in pretending it doesn't still exist:

"I was in London for the riots. I was kind of surprised that people were shocked it happened. There's no warning, but it's a regular feature of English urban life if you think about it. Every ten years you get some riots."

"Riots like that have been a feature of Britain for 200 years or so and we like to congratulate ourselves that it has gone away. But the reality is that they haven't have they?"
